Job Summary

This position supports the Facilities and Engineering Manager in ensuring that all building and equipment technical requirements are effectively managed, either directly or through external suppliers, with a strong focus on warehouse hardware and automated systems. The role is key to maintaining the highest standards of operational performance across all systems and equipment within the Facilities and Engineering Department’s remit.

 

Requirement for out-of-hours working for site callouts, emergency equipment repairs and scheduled maintenance requirements outside of operational hours. Typically, scheduled maintenance requirements may include but not limited to four Saturdays a year and two 1PM-10PM shifts four times a year.

What does this role Involve

Warehouse Systems & Equipment
•    Work alongside the Facilities and Engineering Manager to maximise uptime of warehouse automated systems through planned maintenance, fault diagnosis, issue resolution, and repairs.
•    Collaborate with supplier technical teams to identify root causes and implement preventative solutions.

 

Facilities Management / Maintenance
•    Support the maintenance and operation of core building systems, including electrical and mechanical infrastructure, HVAC, sprinkler and fire protection systems, security alarms, access control, and lighting controls.
•    Conducting the maintenance of all warehouse and office related ancillary systems.
•    Conduct or arrange preventative maintenance and repair of all equipment associated with the warehouse and offices.
•    This may include primary POC for all related suppliers (Racking MHE, lighting, electrical, security, hardware (benches, scales, wrapping machines) 
•    Manage & review RAMS process for all on site works.

 

Technical & Administrative Duties
•    Develop a strong understanding of warehouse systems and building infrastructure, including MHE, automation hardware and software, SCADA, and CMMS.
•    Maintain accurate records of all planned and reactive maintenance activities, as well as spares inventory, keeping the Facilities and Engineering Manager informed on all matters.
•    Carry out and document regular building compliance checks, such as emergency lighting tests and legionella control measures.
•    To track and report defects, repair times, root cause and where available, associated costs to the Facilities and Engineering Manager.

 

Training & Process Improvement
•    Partner with the operations team to deliver training for operatives and supervisors, supporting process management and driving continuous improvement.
•    Promote strong employee understanding of warehouse processes and system performance metrics.

 

Automated Machinery Maintenance
•    To conduct planned preventative maintenance aligned with Knapp and OEM requirements.
•    To adopt the Knapp recommended daily, weekly and monthly maintenance schedule and ensure 100% compliance.
•    To ensure that the operation of equipment and systems is compliant with OEM guidelines.

 

Breakdown repair and coordination
•    Act as the first point of contact in the event of a process or equipment malfunction, ranging from jammed totes to faulty motors, sensors, or control systems.
•    Take responsibility for prioritising diagnosis and identifying the quickest route to resolution.
•    To co-ordinate and host site visits as appropriate with Knapp and other service Engineers.

 

What are we looking for

•    Apprentice trained to NVQ level 3 preferred but not essential.
•    Practical mechanical/electrical experience.
•    Ambition to learn and develop engineering skills.
•    Pragmatic approach to problem solving.
•    Excellent communication skills.
•    Reliable and dependable with the ability to cope and problem solve under pressure to keep operations running.
•    Inquisitive mind, capable of learning quickly.
•    Strong IT skills, including Word and Excel.
•    Organised and competent at record-keeping and documentation.
•    Experience and knowledge of H&S in a warehouse environment.
