Job Summary

The main purpose of this role is to supervise a team of Operatives and control the use of all warehouse facilities; ensuring that the space, time and staff resource available is utilised as effectively as possible while meeting all H&S requirements.

 

We would like to make you aware of our current shift patterns within the warehouse. We work on x3 different patterns, so please can you confirm if your CV or cover letter whether you can be flexible in working some of these patterns, or whether you have a preference. 

 

Shift patterns:

  • 6am – 3pm, with a 2pm finish on a Friday (early shift)
  • 9am – 6pm, with a 5pm finish on a Friday (core shift)
  • 1pm – 10pm, only Monday to Thursday currently (late shift) – you will also receive a 20% uplift of the hourly rate for these hours worked

What does this role Involve

  • Controlling day to day workload for the designated team you supervise while maintaining a good rate of work yourself by understanding which tasks to complete and which to delegate.
  • Understanding fully the processes of your team, not necessarily in order to complete them all yourself, but to be able to train new staff, understand demands of tasks, assign appropriate staff, space and time for tasks and meet all the priorities set by the business.
  • Leading by example with setting high standards in terms of both conduct and performance, to boost morale within your team and go the extra mile when needed.
  • Developing strong working relationships with all members of your team so opportunities for training (both in house and external) and development or for review and disciplinary action are identified and dealt with quickly and efficiently.
  • Handling various personnel related tasks for your team such as management of timekeeping, return to work interviews, incident reporting and to provide input for probation or appraisal reviews. Ensuring all members of your team are fully aware of and compliant to all company policies and procedures.
  • Identifying and resolving any issues that arise within your team while understanding which issues should be escalated to your line manager.
  • Liaising with the warehouse management team on a regular basis to ensure communication for all tasks, processes and company updates are handled efficiently.
  • Having a basic understanding of H&S requirements to enable reporting of issues to H&S officers where needed. Ensuring that the team operate safely and follow all H&S requirements to ensure their own safety and those of others within the Warehouse environment. Reporting H&S issues where needed.
  • Lead the receipt, storage, and dispatch of goods, ensuring timely and accurate order fulfilment.
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement improvements in workflow, layout, and equipment usage.
  • Track and analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) such as order accuracy, pick/pack rates, and turnaround times to drive continuous improvement.

What are we looking for

Essential Skills:
•    Good verbal and written communication skills.
•    Excellent organisational skills.
•    The ability to cope under pressure with high volume/fast moving daily processes and deadlines. 
•    Good computer literacy on all of the Microsoft programs. 
•    A good understanding of basic H&S requirements. 
•    Experience in a Warehouse Operative role.

 

Desirable Skills: 
•    Good knowledge of distribution, logistics or warehousing.
•    Experience of managing small teams in a similar working environment.
•    Familiarity with modern warehousing practices and methods.
