Job Summary

The Managing Graphic Designer is responsible for management of visual implementation, project coordination, and development of all graphic design material for FFG’s TCG (trading card games) product lines. They will also work alongside the team as a Graphic Designer.

 

What will your role involve

  • Manage administrative functions of the Graphic Designers (GDs) within the TCG Visual team, such as: assign projects, coach and evaluate designers in the execution of designs within brand standards.
  • Set and manage the graphic design workflow; set deliverables and milestones based on studio production timelines to ensure timely and successful project completion.
  • Collaborate with GDs, game developers, producers, and print production team to develop products within budget while maintaining high quality, both in a material and artistic vision.
  • Manage freelance GDs as needed.
  • Co-contribute as a Graphic Designer by taking on an appropriate portion of total workflow.
  • Collaborate with the Visual Design Manager to develop concepts for all product lines within the TCG vertical, including branding, packaging, and component design.
  • Present all final designs to Visual Design Manager for approval.
  • Review and provide feedback to the GDs on projects from concept to completion.
  • Attend regular production, development, design, and TCG Visual team meetings.
  • Utilize decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills to keep the team at peak efficiency.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop staff, including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities. This mentorship will involve familiarizing staff with FFG culture, style, and procedures.
  • Continually improve the knowledge, skill, and efficiency of the graphic designers through research, education and training.
  • Nurture an employee-oriented culture around FFG’s core values that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, employee retention and development, high performance, and fun.
  • Lead employees using performance management and development process that provides a framework to encourage employee contribution and includes goal setting, feedback, and performance development planning. This will involve meeting with reports for formal evaluations twice a year, and weekly one-on-one meetings.
  • Support and ensure FFG’s policies and procedures are administered and followed.
  • Develop and improve policies and procedures related to graphic design and the TCG Visual team.
  • All other tasks as assigned by management as required by expertise or time.

  • Provide guidance to a team of Graphic Designers, collaborate with other teams, and execute the objectives of vertical leadership.  
  • Strong understanding of visual storytelling and illustration principles (composition, color, value, proportion, anatomy, texture, etc.).
  • Proven success prioritizing assignments to meet deadlines while working independently.
  • Ability to evaluate departmental methods and procedures; suggest changes when necessary.


Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Three to five years of experience in graphic design, optimized for print/press production.
  • Two to three years of management experience.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Familiarity with Windows OS.
  • Portfolio that demonstrates relevant artistic skills and understanding of visual communication principles required. 
  • 3D proficiency with software such as Blender is preferred.
  • Ability script within InDesign (code such as Java) is a plus!

Actual compensation for this role is based on several factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, qualifications, experience, market conditions and specific work location. Base Salary Range: $75k-$85k.
